School days, school days,… do you remember the old ditty from our childhood? Well, life isn’t a simple as it was back then. With MRSA staph infection outbreaks reported from schools all over the country last fall, we’ve got a serious issue that requires our attention. Our kids health is our prime concern.

Was MRSA staph infection as prevalent as it appeared to be last year? Or was it more a case of the new thing that most of us had never heard of before? Kind of like learning a new word, that we seem to hear everywhere all of a sudden. Whatever the case, CA-MRSA in our schools is something we need to pay close attention to.

While many schools have implemented more frequent cleaning regimens, and are sending home tips and precautions for parents to reinforce with their children, these solutions are not sufficient. We’ll have to explore root causes and address MRSA staph infection head on. With similar and even more deadly conditions like Clostridium difficile emerging, we cannot rest.

In addition to eating right and going to bed at a decent hour, give your kids a vial of hand sanitizer and tell them to use it frequently. The little things can make a big difference.
