Based on a recent UK government report England is predicted to have a population comprising of 12 million obese adults and a further 1 million obese kids by the year 2010.

The ‘Forecasting Obesity 2010’ report prepared for the Department of Health took obesity to mean an adult with a body mass index (BMI) of over 30. Children from the ages of 2-15 were counted as obese if their BMI was over the 95th centile.

Worrying health trends could be increases in cases of heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

What seems to be the greatest problem is the continued decline in peoples general daily activity coupled with their desire to consume greater quantities of fastfood.

Tony Blair is now making moves to create a new fitness strategy to try to curb this growing problem.

A key point to include in such a strategy would simply be that fitness and exercise should be adopted in combination with a suitable diet , something that at present is too much of a hurdle for most people to consider.
